CTHINGS.CO partnered with Spin Robotics and Danish Technological Institute to combine 5G technology with advanced robotics and Artificial Intelligence to ensure secure, low-latency connection for optimizing processes and improving machine maintenance.
The goal of this project was to utilize new technologies and expertise in a way that enhances the Industry 4.0 screwdriving solution. As a result, Spin Robotics created a new and improved collaborative screwdriver tool intended to increase workplace safety and reduce downtime by replacing tens of handheld, human-operated power screwdrivers with a robotic solution that do the job consistently and efficiently; Danish Technological Institute worked on an AI algorithm to enable preventative maintenance; and CTHINGS.CO delivered a powerful data processing and connectivity fabric with the development of the new 5G Gateway that is able to support up to 80M machine learning weights and is capable of performing 4 trillion operations per second (4 TOPS).
Thanks to reliable 5G connectivity, CTHINGS.CO could easily extract crucial data from the screwdriving tool, process it at the edge, reliably feed the AI engine, and finally display it as insights on the user-friendly dashboard developed as part of the project. The online dashboard presented detailed metrics, such as: cycle time, success rate, torque accuracy deviation, and products per hour, allowing any operator to analyze the status of screwdriving machines and anticipate malfunctions, resulting in optimized maintenance, reduced industrial waste, and greater efficiency.
This project was successful in not only demonstrating the capabilities of 5G technology as a low-latency, ultra-reliable data conduit for mission-critical operations but also in showcasing the value and ever-growing possibilities for Industry 4.0.
The combination of advanced robotics, artificial intelligence, edge computing and 5G connectivity lays the foundation for a new chapter in the industrial revolution centered on efficiency and sustainability. Moreover, thanks to the core aspects of 5G, this process can be massively scaled, securely connecting thousands of cobots across multiple facilities anywhere in the world.
Through this project in collaboration with Spin Robotics and the Danish Technological Institute, CTHINGS.CO has proven capable of bringing precious data to the center of decision-making, improving efficiency and empowering industries to become more sustainable.
